What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a skin rejuvenation procedure designed to remove vellus hair (peach fuzz), dead skin cells, and debris on the outermost skin layer. This treatment can ultimately improve skin texture by eliminating dull surface skin and bringing forth healthier skin layers.

What Can Dermaplaning Do for Me?

With its ability to help both women and men of virtually all skin types, dermaplaning offers benefits including:

Dr. Godek is professional, caring, and really listens to what his patients want. I could not be more satisfied with my experience!

How Does the Dermaplaning Procedure Work?

The dermaplaning procedure involves the gentle application of a surgical blade to remove vellus hair and dead skin cells. The blade is angled along the skin to shave off the outer dermal layer, ultimately bringing out the softer, healthier skin underneath. This process is virtually painless for most patients, typically creating a sensation like that of shaving the face or legs.

In most cases, the dermaplaning procedure takes minutes, depending on each individual’s needs. There is typically no recovery time necessary. The cost for a dermaplaning treatment is $110.

Dermaplaning can often be an excellent complement to a chemical peel or a facial for more comprehensive results.

What Can I Expect from the Results of Dermaplaning?

Softer skin and improved texture are often immediately noticeable after treatment. In some cases, multiple dermaplaning treatments may be recommended for optimal results.

What is the Difference Between Dermaplaning vs. Microdermabrasion?

While both dermaplaning and microdermabrasion can provide excellent skin rejuvenation results, the two procedures utilize very different techniques to accomplish specific goals. Dermaplaning primarily exfoliates dead skin cells and reduces vellus hair by using the precise application of a surgical blade on the skin’s surface. By contrast, microdermabrasion utilizes suction via a diamond-tip appliance that essentially “buffs” away surface skin layers to bring forth the healthier layers underneath. Dermaplaning can be ideal for a wide range of skin types. While microdermabrasion may be a good option for some individuals, it is often not the best procedure for those with particularly sensitive skin. Based on your needs and goals, our team can determine which treatment is best for you.

Is Dermaplaning Painful?

When performed by qualified professionals, dermaplaning is often virtually painless for most patients. Similar to shaving, dermaplaning involves the application of a surgical blade that is lightly dragged across the surface of the skin.

Are There Side Effects of Dermaplaning?

The primary side effect of dermaplaning is higher skin sensitivity immediately following the procedure. Patients should use sunscreen with 30 spf or higher to reduce the chance of developing hyperpigmentation. It is important to note that dermaplaning does not typically require any downtime after treatment—patients often resume their normal daily routines immediately.

How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost?

The overall cost of dermaplaning will depend on the extent of treatment being performed for the unique needs of each patient. Our practice accepts a variety of payment options, including financing arrangements available for qualified applicants through PatientFi™. We can provide you with a cost estimate for your dermaplaning treatment once your customized treatment plan is created during the initial consultation, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
